A very rare Minke whale beached its self in the middle of surfpads surf lessons with Whangarei Intermediate School last Tuesday. We think it had been injured by a boat at sea.

The students and the surfpad instructors spent a bit of time trying to push it out to sea again, but alas it died. 

It was transported off the beach that afternoon for research by MAF.
